I have an apple slicer already, but I thought it was about due for a trade-in. The one I had was all metal, beginning to rust on the handles, and was becoming a bit dull to slice.
It was only good for cutting the smaller apples, and not the big red or yellow ones. I wanted more than just Granny Smith’s apples, and this new slicer looks like it could take the job.
I like the fact that the only metal exposed is the stainless steel slicing “blades” themselves.
My old one, everything was exposed and hurt my hands when I pushed down on the apple, and occasionally my hands would slip. I like the sturdiness of this slicer, and the easy grip, non-slip handles. It seems to give your hands more of a better grip, not to mention you can put just your palms down on the sides and give it a good push. Occasionally, you will come across a stubborn, hard to cut apple, and I am sure this slicer is up for the task.
It is easy to wash – I hand wash, because I do not have a dishwasher. I know that is dishwasher-safe, so for those out there, you can go either way. Quick safety tip though: I know a lot of little ones want to be independent and do things for themselves, including getting their own snacks. This may seem tempting for them, but since it has the sharp edges, I would just make sure there is someone to supervise – that way they can still do it themselves, for the most part!
